WASSCE AND SSSCE APPLICANTS

WASSCE applicants must have at least credit passes (A1-C6) in six subjects comprising three (3) core subjects, including English Language, Mathematics (Core), Integrated Science and three (3) elective subjects with an overall aggregate of 36 or better.

SSSCE Applicants must have at least credit passes (A-D) in English Language, Mathematics (Core), Integrated Science and three (3) elective subjects with an overall aggregate of 24 or better.

MATURE APPLICANTS

Applicants must be 25 years or older at the time of application. Candidates may be required to pass an Entrance Examination and/or oral interviews. Proof of age with birth certificates or other legitimate documents shall be provided by applicants.

Advanced level ('a' level) and general certificate of education (gce) applicants

Applicants with ‘A’ Level or GCE qualifications into eligible programmes must meet the stated criteria.

Passes in three (3) subjects (at least one of the passes should be Grade D or better). Also, the applicant must have had credit passes (Grade 6) in five GCE Ordinary Level subjects including English Language, Mathematics and a Science subject (for non- science students) and an Arts subject (for science students).

Transfer Students

Candidates who have taken accredited related programmes in approved tertiary institutions may be considered for admission on advance standing into eligible programmes. Each case will be considered on its merit.

WASSCE and SSSCE Applicants

WASSCE applicants must have at least credit passes (A1-C6) in English Language, Mathematics (Core), Integrated Science and three (3) elective subjects in Science, General Arts or Home Economics subjects with an overall aggregate of 36 or better.

SSSCE applicants must have at least credit passes (A-D) in English Language, Mathematics (Core), Integrated Science and three (3) elective subjects in Science, General Arts or Home Economics subjects with an overall aggregate of 24 or better.

Preference will be given to students with Science electives.

Mature Applicants

To be eligible, applicants must:

  1. Be 25 years and above at the time of application
  2. Pass a selection examination and interview

Mature applicants also include:

  1. Holders of Diploma in Nursing from a recognized institution with a minimum GPA of 2.50 and a pass in the licensure examination conducted by the Nurses and Midwives’ Council of Ghana will be admitted to level 300. There will also be a selection examination and interview
  2. Professional nurses with a Diploma in Nursing Education/Administration with a minimum of B+ average will enter at Level 200
  3. State Registered Nurses enter the programme in Level 200
  4. Mature candidates who are not professional nurses at the time of admission should have met the minimum requirement for admission as stated for WASSCE/SSSCE

Access Course Programme for HAC/NAC Certificate Holders

Access Course in the Faculty of Medical Sciences is an eight (8) week programme to enable auxiliary Nurses (HAC/NAC) who already hold certificates and Auxiliary Identification Number (AIN) or Professional Identification Number (PIN) from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana (N&MC) to enrol in degree Nursing Programme (Sandwich) in the Department of Nursing. The point of entry will be Level 200.

Full flexibility in attendance of lectures on week days, weekends, and evenings to suit your working schedules.

Only Successful Candidates from the Access Course will be offered the opportunity to apply for BSc. Nursing (Sandwich).

Programme on offer upon a successful completion of the Access Course is Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

  1. Entry Requirements
    All applicants must hold a certificate accredited by Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana.
  2. Applicants must hold certificate in Nurse-Assistant Clinical (NAC)/Health Assistant Clinical (HAC)
  3. Applicants must have practised in their chosen fields for three (3) years or more.
  4. Health Assistant Clinical (HAC) / Nurse Assistant Clinical (NAC) applicants will progress in BSc. Nursing programme and write the Nursing and Midwifery Council (N&MC) Licensing Examination to be qualified as Registered General Nurses (RGN). Entry point is Level 200.

Transfer Students

Candidates who have taken accredited Nursing or related programmes in approved tertiary institutions may be considered for admission on advance standing. Each case will be considered on its merit.

Advanced Level (‘A’ Level) and General Certificate of Education (GCE) Applicants

Passes in three (3) subjects (at least one of the passes should be Grade D or better). Also, the applicant must have had credit passes (Grade 6) in five GCE Ordinary Level subjects including English Language, Mathematics and a Science subject (for non- science students) and an Arts subject (for science students).

Validity of Results

Results obtained from an examination shall be valid for two (2) years, beyond which a prospective student needs to take the examinations again for admission.

Entrance examination into the Bachelor of Science Computer Science Programme would be conducted for admission of candidates aged 25 years or above.

Entrance Examination comprising three (3) written papers, i.e. Aptitude Test, Mathematics and English Language and oral interviews shall be conducted. The written papers shall fetch 70% and the oral interview shall be 30% of the examination marks respectively. The pass mark shall be 50% but a candidate shall require an average of 55% to gain admission to pursue an undergraduate programme.

Applicants must show proof of age with birth certificate or any legitimate documentary proof of date of birth which is at least 5 years old at the time of application.

Diploma/HND Applicants

Holders of Diploma/HND from recognized institutions in related fields may be given admission into Level 200 after passing a special examination.

Results obtained from an examination shall be valid for two (2) years, beyond which a prospective student needs to take the examinations again for admission.
